Suicide survivors group meets Thursday

A support group for those who have lost a loved one to suicide will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the West Hawaii Community Health Center conference room. Everyone is welcome to attend. The West Hawaii Suicide Prevention Task Force is sponsoring the group.

Traffic safety committee meeting Thursday

The Kona Traffic Safety Committee meets at 5 p.m. Thursday at West Hawaii Civic Center’s Community Halau, Building G. Attendees will have an opportunity to meet with county and state officials who can help mitigate traffic safety problems.

Ice cream fundraiser benefits student musicians

Kealakehe Intermediate School’s ukulele players and chorus will hold an all-you-can-eat ice cream fundraiser with entertainment and a craft fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the school’s cafeteria.

Cost is $5 including all ice cream toppings. Funds will help cover the group’s travel expenses.

Conservation center open house offers a look at rare birds

The Keauhou Bird Conservation Center will hold its annual open house Saturday and Sunday at its facility near Volcano Golf & Country Club. Participants will get an up-close look at some of Hawaii’s rarest birds and learn about the center’s avian conservation efforts. Birds visitors will see include alala (Hawaiian Crow), palila, kiwikiu (Maui parrotbill) and puaiohi (small Kauai thrush).
